Peasant brooches from India. Rubies from Burma, honey brown Ones from Virginian slopes. Old Chinese buckles of jasper Beside American pearls, born In the Connecticut river. Rose jasper pried from Ural mountains. Out of Siberia, ornamented And cut in Paris. Australian onyx, bluish black Peacock dragons of iridescent Opal . . . and here stands little Ho-Hsien-Ku, forever young, With her lotus emblem In pure Formosa coral. And last, this Persian seal Upon whose shining surface Arabic Characters have patiently been carved: In the name of Allah the compassionate, The merciful -- Who knoweth what has Been, and what shall be hereafter -- The upholding of Heaven and Earth Burden HIM not . . .
