GOD IN A GARDEN, by FRANCES STOCKWELL LOVELL First Line: I made a bit of a garden Last Line: God walks where gardens grow. Subject(s): Gardens & Gardening | ||||||||
I made a bit of a garden, A rose and a daffodil, A pool to reflect the cloud drifts Where I could sit so still, A fern and some deep blue larkspur, And God walked by my rill. I planted some white columbine, A pansy face, heartsease, To give me comfort when I'm sad, Hollyhocks for the bees; And when I'd finished gardening, God moved among my trees. I planted lilies, purple, gold, And tulips row on row; I gathered violets and moss To live where lilacs blow; I planted flowers, and I found God walks where gardens grow. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NOVEMBER GARDEN: AN ELEGY by ANDREW HUDGINS AN ENGLISH GARDEN IN AUSTRIA (SEEN AFTER DER ROSENKAVALIER) by RANDALL JARRELL ACROSS THE BROWN RIVER by GALWAY KINNELL A DESERTED GARDEN by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS NOT THE SWEET CICELY OF GERARDES HERBALL by MARGARET AVISON AN OLD GARDEN by HERBERT BASHFORD ETERNITY by FRANCES STOCKWELL LOVELL |
