COUNSEL, by ISABEL ECCLESTONE MACKAY Poet's Biography First Line: I am hardly afraid Last Line: They have grown. Subject(s): Advice; Sympathy; Empathy | ||||||||
I AM hardly afraid But I wonder if you, Who have lived in the world so much longer than I, Would give me the lift of a good word or two, As it were, Passing by? For life has a way, Upsetting to some, Of leaving her problems all over the scene And then just pretending to be deaf and dumb When you ask What they mean And there's this about words Be they knowledge or guess-- They roam through the mind with a life of their own And, meeting them sometimes in moments of stress, One finds They have grown. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SYMPATHY by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON WORDS TO JOE CERAVOLO by RON PADGETT SYMPATHY (2) by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR SYMPATHY by HENRY DAVID THOREAU MISPLACED SYMPATHY by CHARLES FOLLEN ADAMS QUATORZAINS: 10.
