UNTO THE HILLS, by CHARLES HENRY MACKINTOSH Poet's Biography First Line: I lift my eyes unto the friendly hills Last Line: My eyes, my voice, to thank him for this gift. Subject(s): Holidays; Mountains; Thanksgiving; Hills; Downs (great Britain) | ||||||||
I lift my eyes unto the friendly hills: They reach up to the heavens for the rain, Returning it, through countless brooks and rills, To brim the rivers rolling through the plain To irrigate the earth, ripen the grain, And grind it, as the racing water spills To spin the dynamos of mighty mills, Before returning to the sea again. And then the endless circuit is repeated, From sea to hill, from hill again to sea, A thousand needed tasks are all completed By nothing more than water, flowing free, The gift of God . . . and, from His hills, I lift My eyes, my voice, to thank Him for this gift. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH BLOOD by CHARLES HENRY MACKINTOSH |
