The trees that were in summer decked All lincoln green, How bare they are! how bare! On the barren scene. The trees that hummed their leafy song Caught from their nesting guest, How lone they are! how lone! So gauntly dressed. Like unto the love of youth That decks and sings, Unknowing the autumn winds Of chill, bleak things Will make of all so dear beheld Imploring, saddened arms of eld. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IKON: THE HARROWING OF HELL by DENISE LEVERTOV LEEK STREET by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR UNABLE TO FIND by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS 3 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS: 1 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS: 2 by HAYDEN CARRUTH WRITING IN THE AFTERLIFE by BILLY COLLINS THE MOON HAS HER NEST by MARIE AUSTIN MAJOR |
