ON THE DEPARTURE OF VISCOUNTESS D'AUCHY, by                     Poet's Biography
First Line: Kings of my life, they go away
Last Line: Shall pour on me?

KINGS of my life, they go away,
Those eyes, those bright eyes,
All envious makes their brighter ray
Those of the skies.
Gods, protectors of the right,
For what crimes deserved can be
All the anguish that her flight
Shall pour on me?

She departs, that marvel fair,
For whom day and night,
Though warned by reason to beware,
Love burns me quite.
Gods, protectors of the right,
For what crimes deserved can be
All the anguish that her flight
Shall pour on me?

What dread seclusion can I find,
With no dwelling nigh,
There to vent my troubled mind
In liberty?
Gods, protectors of the right,
For what crimes deserved can be
All the anguish that her flight
Shall pour on me?

Some solace do the wretched seem
To derive from tears;
For me, though were each eye a stream,
No hope appears.
Gods, protectors of the right,
For what crimes deserved can be
All the anguish that her flight
Shall pour on me?
