SONNETS FOR CHRISTMAS: 2, by KEMP MALONE First Line: O marvel not, ye shepherds of the night Last Line: Jesus is born today of mary mild. Subject(s): Christmas; Nativity, The | ||||||||
O marvel not, ye shepherds of the night, Turn not away, ye wise men from the East, Though in one stall lie mother, babe and beast, For now this spot is goodly in God's sight, Before his utmost heaven all earth shines bright, A star above the stars, a gleam increased To glory passing aught that most or least Have dreamt of, flooding endless worlds with light. Here is the ox's stall, the lowly spot That makes earth high in heaven; here lies the child, The Lamb of God, stainless and undefiled. Bow down before your king yet linger not, Go, make the tidings known in hall and cot: Jesus is born today of Mary mild. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DIFFERENT VIEWS; A CHRISMAS DUET by JOSEPH ASHBY-STERRY AN UNMERRY CHRISTMAS by AMBROSE BIERCE CHRISTMAS IN CHINATOWN by AUGUST KLEINZAHLER CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS ISAIAH'S COAL by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
