BIRD NEIGHBORS, by ARLYLE MANSFIELD First Line: Guarding her hungry brood of helpless young Last Line: Her cheeping nestlings spread their bold beaks wide. Subject(s): Robins | ||||||||
Guarding her hungry brood of helpless young, A widowed robin sits above the door. Soon she must flutter forth again to find New earthy morsels which may please the four. How should she know that to this woodland place A horde of human residents would come -- Peer upward at the burdened antler crown; Disturb her haven with their noisy hum? The busy parent cocks a wary head And mingles caution with maternal pride. Oblivious of all who stand and stare, Her cheeping nestlings spread their bold beaks wide. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE ROBIN IN JANUARY by HENRY CHARLES BEECHING OWL AGAINST ROBIN by SIDNEY LANIER HUMAN, AVIAN, VEGETABLE, BLOOD by KENNETH REXROTH THE BROWN VEST by BARBARA GUEST A ROBIN by WALTER JOHN DE LA MARE |
