Eons, gone and forgotten, I was a Neptune daughter. The curling wings of a skate, and moving reed-held water Were motions of a mood that left me strangely dreaming. The earth was far and queer, like places that were seeming. Eons gone, I swam with silver fins a-quiver Sensing tides that swelled and cool inpouring river, Sensing winds and moons and desolate ice reaches, Fearing sunlight's rays and luring golden beaches. Far and away, with life, a thing of fin and motion, Darting to green-black depths at a start or notion, Eons lost and gone, I swam against the thrall Of ages time forgot and dreams I can't recall. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FERGUS FALLING by GALWAY KINNELL A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV LAST THINGS by WILLIAM MEREDITH CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR |
