NOW THAT CAN NEVER BE DONE, by SISTER MARIS STELLA Poet's Biography First Line: I shall never forget my mother's voice singing Last Line: I should write them down. Now that can never be done. Alternate Author Name(s): Smith, Alice Gustava | |||
I shall never forget my mother's voice singing. It was a true voice that no one could forget Who had heard it once. It came like water springing From a deep spring that must be running yet Somewhere for someone else to sing from. I Could wish that spring were mine, for like no other Singing was my mother's singing. Why, I never knew for sure. Always my mother Had her songs by heart and sang them so -- Old songs that everyone knew and dozens more -- But though I loved them it is only the tunes I know. The words are half forgot. I thought before, While she still sang her songs, that one by one I should write them down. Now that can never be done. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BAY VIOLETS by SISTER MARIS STELLA IT IS THE REED by SISTER MARIS STELLA OXFORD BELLS by SISTER MARIS STELLA SAN MARCO MUSEUM, FLORENCE by SISTER MARIS STELLA THE PELICANS MY FATHER SEES by SISTER MARIS STELLA THE VOICE by SISTER MARIS STELLA THIS ONE HEART-SHAKEN by SISTER MARIS STELLA A MAN TO A WOMAN by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS |
