THIS EVENING, by CAMILLE MAUCLAIR Poet's Biography First Line: I am sketched this evening Last Line: In the sadness of swans and the dew. Subject(s): Evening; Mourning; October; Silence; Sunset; Twilight; Bereavement | ||||||||
I am sketched this evening By happy hands that take my heart Slowly, The brow so frail and childlike That tears Tremble upon my lids. But silence dwells So that I dare not weep, Somnolence wells So that I dare not dream, Lord! Grandeur swells So that I dare not be! And I am a slumbering water, And I am a leaf forlorn, In the wind where golden-haired October mourns, In the sadness of swans and the dew. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HUNGERFIELD by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE MOURNER by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN HECUBA MOURNS by MARILYN NELSON THERE IS NO GOD BUT by AGHA SHAHID ALI IF I COULD MOURN LIKE A MOURNING DOVE by FRANK BIDART |
