FALLEN LEAVES, by DORA DICKSON MCBROOM First Line: I strolled o'er wooded, wind - swept hills Last Line: Because of you, my dears. Subject(s): Autumn; Leaves; Seasons; Fall | ||||||||
I strolled o'er wooded, wind-swept hills 'Mong bare and naked trees, And walked as in loose drifted snow Through brown, soft, rustling leaves. I felt a wee bit sad at heart, I missed the colors gay Of autumn leaves upon the trees, When last I passed this way. Now, all those gorgeous colored leaves Lie scattered on the ground; Few hints of previous wondrous tints On any can be found. They're caught by every passing breeze And circled high in air, To fall again and huddle close At the feet of trees so bare. And thus, dear leaves, your mission fill; As much your part to be A shelter for all tender roots, As swaying high in tree. Soon, floating low, some soft grey clouds Will send a cover warm Of snowflakes, light as down itself, To shield you from all storm. Then, when the Springtime comes again And cold wind disappears; All leaves and flowers will lovelier be Because of you, my dears. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OUR AUTUMN by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN AN AUTUMN JOY by GEORGE ARNOLD A LEAF FALLS by MARION LOUISE BLISS THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD A LETTER IN OCTOBER by TED KOOSER AUTUMN EVENING by DAVID LEHMAN EVERYTHING THAT ACTS IS ACTUAL by DENISE LEVERTOV THE SICK ROSE, FR.
