SILENCE, by IDA MCDANIEL First Line: It is still / in the desert Last Line: Brings me solace. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating | ||||||||
It is still In the desert. Only fragile Mariposa lilies And a giant tree of thorns Bear witness to my anguish. Like sentinel of Time The cool saguara scans The spectrum-tinted veil Across mysterious distances. Ineffable fragrance Floats upon a breeze As gentle as the voice Of gratitude. It is still. The pungent whisper Of the desert Brings me solace. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAITRESSING IN THE ROOM WITH A THOUSAND MOONS by MATTHEA HARVEY CANDIED YAMS' by TERRANCE HAYES DINNER OF HERBS by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN THE BANQUET SONG by KENNETH KOCH SPLITTING AN ORDER by TED KOOSER COMING DOWN TO THE DESERT AT LORDBURG, N.M. by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
