JOHN AND I, by MRS. JOHN MCELROY First Line: We have jogged along together Last Line: John and I. Subject(s): Marriage; Weddings; Husbands; Wives | ||||||||
We have jogged along together Through fair and stormy weather, John and I. We've had our ups and downs, We've had our smiles and frowns, John and I. We've had sickness, we've had health, We've had everything but wealth, John and I. We've had good times that were snappy When we both were very happy, John and I. We have had some sadness too When we both felt very blue, John and I. Just thirty-nine harvest moons we've seen; Some years brought fat, some years brought lean To John and I. We've seen sorrow, we've seen joy Trying to raise a girl and boy, John and I. So we've climbed the hill together hand in hand, And we'll journey on together to the better land, John and I. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A BLESSING FOR A WEDDING by JANE HIRSHFIELD A SUITE FOR MARRIAGE by DAVID IGNATOW ADVICE TO HER SON ON MARRIAGE by MARY BARBER THE RABBI'S SON-IN-LAW by SABINE BARING-GOULD KISSING AGAIN by DORIANNE LAUX A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV |
