SILVER NIGHT, by HELEN MCGAUGHEY First Line: Upon the road of night I walk in rain Last Line: Endowed by all this silver solitude. | |||
Upon the road of night I walk in rain, A darkling spirit by the storm set free. Forever in my soul there will remain The silver sound of this telegraphy. The sky now speaks to tree, and tree to bush, -- The bush to grass that whispers to the shore; The sea uncurls long waves into a hush Before the silver strain begins once more. I lift my face to front the windy sky, With eyelids closed receive the cooling touch From slender fingers of the rain and try Remembering that the world can't matter much. So I retrace my steps in peaceful mood Endowed by all this silver solitude. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NIGHT DRIVE by HELEN MCGAUGHEY THE GHOST OF DEACON BROWN by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON THE BEAST OF BURDEN by MARIANNE MOORE THE HARP by RALPH WALDO EMERSON A SONNET by JAMES KENNETH STEPHEN MILTONIC by MAVIS CLARE BARNETT A SPRING CAROL by ADRA CAROLINE BATCHELDER GLOOMY DECEMBER by ROBERT BURNS FAMILIAR EPISTLES ON A SERMON, 'OFFICE & OPERATIONS OF HOLY SPIRIT': 2 by JOHN BYROM |
