MEND IT NOW, by RUTH MCGRAIL First Line: I had a bowl of thick rich cream Last Line: I'll eat my cream, myself. Subject(s): Animals; Cats; Milk; Milkmen; Milkmaids | ||||||||
I had a bowl of thick rich cream Upon my pantry shelf; A prowling cat crawled through the screen And ate that cream, himself. I saved another bowl of cream With thoughts of cakes to be, Made with cream and other things To eat with toast and tea. I clean forgot the broken screen, There were no cats in sight; Next morn there wasn't any cream The bowl was lapped and bright. And there upon my clean bread board That cat left dusty trace Of where he sat to clean his paws And lap cream from his face. He'll never find more bowls of cream Upon my pantry shelf For I've repaired that ragged screen; I'll eat my cream, myself. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OUR SON SWEARS HE HAS 102 GALLONS OF WATER IN HIS BODY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE MY MOTHER'S MILKMAN by DIANE WAKOSKI BABY'S PANTOUM by ANNE WALDMAN MILK FOR THE CAT by HAROLD MONRO MILKING TIME by ELIZABETH MADOX ROBERTS THE MILKMAID by JEFFREYS TAYLOR LYNTON VERSES: 3 by THOMAS EDWARD BROWN TO TWO UNKNOWN LADIES by AMY LOWELL |
