HALCYON DAYS, by MCMYNN ELIZABETH P. First Line: A mystic calm broods over all the land Last Line: Your death is but the prelude to rebirth. Subject(s): Future Life; Retribution; Eternity; After Life | ||||||||
A mystic calm broods over all the land; The painted leaves fall gently one by one, And prostrate lie beneath a half-veiled sun As warm as June, but softer and more bland. This pensive loveliness cannot withstand The advancing foe. November soon will come. Meanwhile these treasured days are halcyon, As autumn smiles and waves a parting hand. I count each day as misers count their gold, And yearn to hold the beauty so soon past -- The glory of its colors manifold, Too fleeting, too ethereal to last. Poor fading leaves that now enrich the earth, Your death is but the prelude to rebirth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IKON: THE HARROWING OF HELL by DENISE LEVERTOV LEEK STREET by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR UNABLE TO FIND by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS 3 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS: 1 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS: 2 by HAYDEN CARRUTH WRITING IN THE AFTERLIFE by BILLY COLLINS THE OLD ENEMY by SARA TEASDALE |
