AS IN A GLASS: 4. CHANGE, by CLARA PLATT MEADOWCROFT First Line: I looked for you in the place where you had been Last Line: As through water -- as in a glass -- Subject(s): Change; Glass And Glassblowers | ||||||||
I looked for you in the place where you had been, And I could not see you. I ran about wildly, trying to find you; I could not find you. I waited -- deceiving myself -- for you to come; But you did not come. Then I threw myself on the ground where your footprints had lain; My eyes were blinded. I hid my face in the grass. Eyes, eyes, that cannot hold a vision steadily, Not even the most familiar form when it suffers the aery change! Light crept up out of darkness, As through water, as in a glass; -- Long stems of lilies, dim whiteness of petals wavering, As through water, as in a glass; -- Then you -- in the old place standing -- and smiling -- As through water -- as in a glass -- | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FOSSIL OF A BIRD HITTING GLASS by ALLISON BENNIS GLASS LADY by SHARON CHMIELARZ GLASS BLOWER by MARIE REISA CLARK DECEPTIVELY LIKE A SOLID by ROALD HOFFMANN GLASS BLOWER by ELEANOR JORDAN HOUSTON FROM THE GLASS SHOP by ROLF JACOBSEN AS IN A GLASS: 1.
