LULLABY, by ALICE MONKS MEARS First Line: Lullaby. For you will summer Last Line: Lullaby, lullaby. Subject(s): Flowers; Love | ||||||||
Lullaby. For you will summer build the green corn aisles for hiding, hang the trees with fruit and laughter, pile the clover hay for riding. Lullaby, lullaby. What children fear the summer sky? For you along the fields the evening will listening wait for you to hear the young sleepy bird, the little cricket; the gentlest sound will touch the ear. Lullaby, lullaby. What children fear the twilight sky? Lullaby. Above you cherished lean the dark hours with starry heads Good-night, good-night now, all lost children turning in terror-sheeted beds. May love put back your fallen sky. Lullaby, lullaby. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD AGAINST THE MISER MIND by ALICE MONKS MEARS |
