SINCERITY, by INEZ BARTLEY MEYER First Line: Dear god, I wonder if you heard Last Line: That it was meant to be. Subject(s): Prayer | ||||||||
Dear God, I wonder if you heard The prayer I said tonight, Beside a bath-tub, on my knees, There in the candle light? Perhaps I laughed a little bit Even while I prayed, And yet I didn't want to wait For I was half afraid I might forget to thank You for Each little dimpled fist, Two baby bodies, straight and strong, And lips as soft as mist. So if You heard a happy prayer Over shouts of glee, Accept, dear God, the grateful thanks, That it was meant to be. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN LISTEN, LORD: A PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON A PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) DIFFERENT WAYS TO PRAY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS WE WHO PRAYED AND WEPT by WENDELL BERRY PRAYERS AND SAYINGS OF THE MAD FARMER by WENDELL BERRY TO A PACIFIST FRIEND by GEORGE SANTAYANA |
