DAWN'S FIRST VOICE, by VIOLA MEYNELL Poet's Biography First Line: I awoke - perhaps too late? Last Line: Of hope to a heart that breaks. Subject(s): Birds; Dawn; Hope; Waking; Sunrise; Optimism | ||||||||
I awokeperhaps too late? The greying window said, Wait. Then, O my herald, you stirred And spokespoke once, and then sang, The day's first sweet sweet bird; To this one place it was given, And I was the one who heard. I may think it so if I will! But in the next field, and next still, In each village a first bird wakes, In each lane throughout the land A first bird stirs and makes Morning from night, with a hint Of hope to a heart that breaks. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SONNET by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SONNET: 9.
