AT PARTING, by ROSELLE MERCIER MONTGOMERY Poet's Biography First Line: The time for you to go has come at last Last Line: And pray to god that you will notlook back! Subject(s): Farewell; Parting | ||||||||
THE time for you to go has come at last; And you, you leave me unconcernedly, Not dreaming what your going means to me. ... I count the precious moments flying past! And little foolish words rise to my lips: "Have you your ticket?" and "Is your train late?" Butoh, my heart is marking time with Fate, And at its deepest core pain tears and grips! Yet still I chatter on: "There is a dineryes," "You'll find the journey interesting, I know!" And dumbly pray that my eyes do not show The pain I feelthe pain you do not guess! The guard calls out: "Express here on this track!" And carelessly you murmur a good-by "Good-by, good luck to you!" I lightly cry And pray to God that you will notlook back! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN STUDY #2 FOR B.B.L. by JUNE JORDAN WATCHING THE NEEDLEBOATS AT SAN SABBA by JAMES JOYCE SESTINA: TRAVEL NOTES by WELDON KEES A DESERTED HOUSE by ROSELLE MERCIER MONTGOMERY |
