HILLS, by ROSELLE MERCIER MONTGOMERY Poet's Biography First Line: There is a special glory set apart Last Line: Can turn them to the hills, as friends of old! Subject(s): Mountains; Hills; Downs (great Britain) | ||||||||
THERE is a special glory set apart For great, green hills that dream against the sky; High hills, blest, as the sun-priest passes by, With beauty that makes sudden tears to start, Yet baffles word or brushbeyond all art; Enfolding hills, that tempt young feet to try To find the wonders that beyond them lie Dear hills, that beckon back the homing heart! Poor, they whose childish eyes have never seen Contented cattle on far hills of green; Bereft are they who leave no hills behind When they set forth the rainbow gold to find! Blessed, they who when they need to be consoled Can turn them to the hills, as friends of old! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH A DESERTED HOUSE by ROSELLE MERCIER MONTGOMERY |
