ONE day a pale, blond woman
Entered my door—
A smiling, golden woman...
I rest no more!

Her hair is braided, shining—
Milk-white her skin...
I saw his eyes follow her
When she came in.

I have hair that is dusky—
Eyes black as sloes...
My heart, in dim foreboding,
Knows—what it knows!
