Subject(s): Love - Loss Of; Pride; Women; Self-esteem; Self-respect

OUT of his life she will go quietly—
So soft her going that he will not guess
Withdrawal from him of her tenderness ...
She will put barriers he cannot see
Between them—bar him imperceptibly. ...
And he will wonder—when she sees him less—
If there is something she does not express,
Or, manlike, charge her with inconstancy!

In time, it will come naturally—the end,
But not in anger! He will call her friend
Who once was more, ah, more! He will not know
What it has cost her quietly to go,
He will not dream it was his love that died!
So softly she will go—in woman pride!
