MYSTERY, by NELLIE H. MOORE First Line: I walked among the purple hills Last Line: Into a darkness we call night. Subject(s): Nature; Night; Bedtime | ||||||||
I walked among the purple hills As eventide was gathering fast, And watched the pretty, prancing rills Below the hilltops, bubble past. I tarried now and then with flowers, Or listened to the birds' sweet song, Drifting through the forest bowers In melodies that lingered long. I sat me down as nature's guest, To watch an artisan at play -- Start out upon a mysterious quest In sable robes that dared not day. But a shadow came and kissed the light Into a darkness we call night. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN THE MAN WITH THE WOODEN LEG by KATHERINE MANSFIELD CONSECRATED GROUND; READ AT THE NEW YORK CITY HALL by EDWIN MARKHAM |
