I THANK THEE, by ELSIE MORLAN First Line: The face of a child beamed with joy Last Line: I thank thee. Subject(s): Customs, Social; Gifts & Giving; Holidays; Thanksgiving | ||||||||
The face of a child beamed with joy When t'was given a pretty toy. She took the gift, ran off to play, One more pleasure had come her way. She had no special thought or care How this gift might have gotten there. You think, such careless untrained ways, Because this child forgot to say; I thank thee. So many gifts are ours each day, So much to gladden all our ways, We take these joys and go along On life's way with a merry song, Perhaps with never a thought or care How these gifts might have gotten there. The little child forgot, 'tis true, But have these words been said by you? I thank Thee. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CULTURE OF GLASS by THYLIAS MOSS THE NIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING by NORMAN DUBIE OUR PRAYER OF THANKS by CARL SANDBURG THANKSGIVING DAY by LYDIA MARIA CHILD XAIPE: 65 by EDWARD ESTLIN CUMMINGS THE OL' TUNES by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR A THANKSGIVING TO GOD [FOR HIS HOUSE] by ROBERT HERRICK |
