MY GUEST, by FRANCES MOYES First Line: In the cool tender twilight hour Last Line: That wrapped me like an aureole. Subject(s): Guests; Visiting | ||||||||
In the cool tender twilight hour When Hesper, in the west, hung low, She came, like perfume of a flower, And radiance of the firelight glow. Beneath the stars, in garden fair, We drank the wine of rich delight In fervent soul-communion rare; Our spirits in ecstatic flight. Too soon, too soon the parting came -- Alone! The feeling over me stole She still was near -- a living flame That wrapped me like an aureole. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LEDA 2: A NOTE ON VISITATIONS by LUCILLE CLIFTON HELSINKI, 1940 by ANSELM HOLLO THE LOW BLACK SQUARE by ANSELM HOLLO AMUSING OUR DAUGHTERS by CAROLYN KIZER POET AND PERSON by DENISE LEVERTOV AFTER THE GUEST; FOR MY BROTHER by GREGORY ORR HILLS OF LIGHT by FRANCES MOYES TO A VIOLENT LEAF (FROM THE GRAVE OF KEATS) by FRANCES MOYES |
