VICTORY, by KARL E. MUNDT Poet's Biography First Line: A morning sunrise on a western plain! Last Line: The world now teems with opportunity. Subject(s): Courage; Victory; Valor; Bravery | ||||||||
A morning sunrise on a western plain! Surpassing painters' skill or sculptor's art, Awakening forgotten hope for gain And bringing to each man another start. Ascending slowly from a sea of light, It offers to the world a vital day And drives away the last imprint of night Revealing a new chance to quell dismay. It sends a dart of light in every shade. Terrors of night that stalk throughout the land How cowardly they slink away, afraid To meet the forces of the Sun God's band. Despondencies of early morning flee The world now teems with opportunity. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNLESS IT WAS COURAGE by MARVIN BELL THE QUALITY OF COURAGE by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET ON THE OREGON COAST; FOR WILLIAM STAFFORD by ROBERT BLY WORDS WITH WALLACE STEVENS by ROBERT BLY BUFFALO CLOUDS OVER THE MAESTRO HOON by NORMAN DUBIE A SONG OF COURAGE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON THE AUDACIOUS by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON OH, THE WATER by DORIANNE LAUX |
