O LOVE! my foolish heart and eyes Have lost all knowledge save of you, And everywherein blowing skies And flowering earthI find anew The changing glory of your face The myriad symbols of your grace. To my enraptured sight you are Sovereign and sweet reality, The splendour of the morning star, The might and music of the sea, The subtle fragrance of the spring, Rich fruit of all Time's harvesting. O Love! my foolish soul and sense Have lost all vision save of you, My sacred fount of sustenance From which my spirit drinks anew Sorrow and solace, hope and power From life to life and hour to hour. O poignant sword! O priceless crown, O temple of my woe and bliss! All pain is compassed by your frown, All joy is centred in your kiss. You are the substance of my breath And you the mystic pang of Death. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A FRIEND KILLED IN THE WAR by ANTHONY HECHT FOR JAMES MERRILL: AN ADIEU by ANTHONY HECHT TARANTULA: OR THE DANCE OF DEATH by ANTHONY HECHT CHAMPS D?ÇÖHONNEUR by ERNEST HEMINGWAY NOTE TO REALITY by TONY HOAGLAND A CHALLENGE TO FATE by SAROJINI NAIDU |
