DESTINY, by EMMA E. NICHOLS First Line: It seems but yesterday Last Line: Unto your chosen destiny. Subject(s): Children; Fate; Parents; Childhood; Destiny; Parenthood | ||||||||
It seems but yesterday You stood and gazed with ardent eyes Across the threshold of your dreams Into a shining Paradise. You saw the glowing, rosy skies, Beheld the promise of its flame, While I, with vision dimmed by tears, Could only whisper your dear name. I stood aside -- I wonder why -- And let you slip away from me; How could my voice have slowed your feet Which ran away so joyously? No! Love was calling (I inept To stem a tide so full and free) And so, my child, I let you go Unto your chosen destiny. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MY PARENTS HAVE COME HOME LAUGHING by MARK JARMAN BIRTHDAY (AUTOBIOGRAPHY) by ROBINSON JEFFERS LOOKING IN AT NIGHT by MARY KINZIE THE VELVET HAND by PHYLLIS MCGINLEY CURRICULUM VITAE by LISEL MUELLER CIVILIZING THE CHILD by LISEL MUELLER MISSING THE DEAD by LISEL MUELLER |
