We're happy, Time, so stop with us. Why hurry you along? Just stay right here. You really must When life is such a song. Love, hope, and friends, we have, and prime Rich deeds, and homely cheer. So sheathe your scythe, Old Father Time, And let us stop right here. "Move on! Move on!" the stern words fall, And Time, year after year, Must bring both joy and funeral pall. He cannot linger here. We cannot ever be as now In pleasure or in sorrow. Old Father Time his swath must mow, And we be changed tomorrow. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE STUDY OF HAPPINESS by KENNETH KOCH SO MUCH HAPPINESS by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE CROWD CONDITIONS by JOHN ASHBERY I WILL NOT BE CLAIMED by MARVIN BELL THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#21): 1.
