MY SIX LITTLE BOYS, by KATHLEEN MOODY NOLEN First Line: Oh my little ones around me Last Line: My life has not been lived in vain. Subject(s): Children; Mothers; Childhood | ||||||||
Oh my little ones around me With their clinging baby hands, How they fondle and caress me, Life is sweet when they are near me; I would stay Time's hand to hold them And to keep them -- always children. For they look to me and trust me, Blindly follow and adore me, Thinking I could do no wrong; For am not I their mother Whom they look to as their queen, And I to them as subjects loving? They cannot be my babies always -- One day they must reach man's estate. Till then, may God's protecting angels Watch o'er and guide my children's feet, As they're tempted, sorely tried -- May God in Heaven be their guide And lead them in the paths of peace, Teach them love and charity -- Give them Health and manly beauty -- Clothed in Hearts of Righteousness. If this -- within my boys I gain -- My life has not been lived in vain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN CHILDREN SELECTING BOOKS IN A LIBRARY by RANDALL JARRELL COME TO THE STONE ... by RANDALL JARRELL THE LOST WORLD by RANDALL JARRELL A SICK CHILD by RANDALL JARRELL CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS ON THE DEATH OF FRIENDS IN CHILDHOOD by DONALD JUSTICE THE POET AT SEVEN by DONALD JUSTICE |
