THAT DESERT WASTE, by KATHLEEN O'DONNELL First Line: My heart is absent from all sorrow Last Line: Will come along with a great fragrant spray. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating | ||||||||
My heart is absent from all sorrow, I just feel like a king on the throne When I view the great cacti around me, Standing there like soldiers of my own. In the mornings the air is so bracing With the sunlight peeping over all ways, And the sand hills are almost caressing. Why should I refrain from its praise? The wind may toss up my surroundings, But a new one it will lay down on the way, And the rains -- though not very often -- Will come along with a great fragrant spray. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAITRESSING IN THE ROOM WITH A THOUSAND MOONS by MATTHEA HARVEY CANDIED YAMS' by TERRANCE HAYES DINNER OF HERBS by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN THE BANQUET SONG by KENNETH KOCH SPLITTING AN ORDER by TED KOOSER WHEN I'M KILLED by ROBERT RANKE GRAVES |
