CLOISTER HYMN, by EMILY HANSON OBEAR First Line: I heard them talk about this changing day Last Line: "yesterday, now, forever -- I am god." Subject(s): Voices | ||||||||
I heard them talk about this changing day, A strange new world, and of what way to take When forts we used to hold secure forsake Their banner. With a questioning dismay I left the searching group and stole away Where rays through glowing crimson windows make A light all quick with blood of martyr's stake Against the arched and chiseled stone of gray. That afternoon I saw a cloister old, Brought from the mother-world to guide the new By a dreamer who makes men of lifeless sod. I listened while the carven figures told Of ageless Voice that spoke as aeons grew: "Yesterday, now, forever -- I am God." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VOICES OF THE AIR by KATHERINE MANSFIELD FIVE EASY POEMS; FOR ANNE-MARIE ALBIACH: 4 (MEZZA VOICE) by MICHAEL PALMER A SINGING VOICE by KENNETH REXROTH A VOICE FROM THE SWEAT-SHOPS (A HYMN WITH RESPONSES) by LOUIS UNTERMEYER COVERING WINGS by KATHERINE MANSFIELD SONGS FOR TWO SEASONS: 1.
