BLESSED PERMANENCE OF HILLS, by
First Line: I could not live where there is not a hill
Last Line: A panacea for littleness that kills.
Subject(s): Mountains; Hills; Downs (great Britain)

I could not live where there is not a hill,
Some mountain height to which to lift my eyes
For comfort, for the guidance there which flies
Straight to a weary heart, earth-winded, ill
With little troubles; taken singly, nil.
But who can singly take persistent lies,
The daily aggravations, whens and whys,
And doubts which constantly depress the will?
Great troubles bring with them a courage greater,
Full compensation, gift from our Creator.
Only -- to ease the mind from fancied taunts,
Regarding every needleprick which haunts
The heart -- God made the permanence of hills,
A panacea for littleness that kills.
