YOUR MUSIC, by PAULINE OGDEN First Line: Your slender fingers drift across the keys Last Line: Feeling that you are playing just for me. Subject(s): Dreams; Music & Musicians; Musical Instruments; Pianos; Nightmares | ||||||||
Your slender fingers drift across the keys, And music throbs and swells upon the air. A spell almost too beautiful to bear You deftly weave, with magic harmonies, Bearing my spirit on a rushing breeze To bright new worlds, spread wide for us to share, In rainbow colors, lofty as a prayer, And strung with webs of haunting memories. So you express, by music's tender means, The soul of genius that within you glows, The things you longed for, and could never be. Almost, you touch the starry rim of dreams -- Listening, I understand, and hold you close, Feeling that you are playing just for me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GIVE YOUR WISH LIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTRA MORTEM: THE BEING by HAYDEN CARRUTH SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: THE VILLAGE ATHEIST by EDGAR LEE MASTERS |
