Orchid and green and the May winds blowing; A white ship in from sea: Springtime and hope through my wild heart flowing. And black-eyed Allan brought to me. Junetime and moonlight and youth's first madness; Love in our eyes that all could see: A sense of sudden bitter sadness At thought of Allan going back to sea. Summer and roses and church bells pealing; Trembling hush at the joys to be: Two of us there on the white bench kneeling, And Allan's ring on the hand of me. Purple and gold and the wild winds blowing; Always a ship going back to sea: Youth and joy and romance going Out of the heart of me... Winter and coldthe black sea foaming; And the lonely years for Allan and me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES AFTERMATH by VIRGINIA KEATING ORTON |
