BIRTH, by LOIS PALCHES First Line: Todays are mothers bound to being pregnant Last Line: And build a world and men secure from terror? Subject(s): Birth; Pregnancy; Child Birth; Midwifery | ||||||||
Todays are mothers bound to being pregnant. They always have Tomorrows within their wombs Before the Yesterdays have reached their tombs. A new day waits, an infant quickly regnant. No midwife, snared by necromantic vision, Should be attendant, hear its newborn cry, As ignorance might throw the birth awry. The time requires a scientist's precision. Tomorrow -- when it comes, will it be blind? Will it be crippled when it need be strong? Will it be sadly pale its whole life long? Or will it have a vision that will find The secret base of all its forbears' error, And build a world and men secure from terror? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WHY I AM AFRAID OF TURNING THE PAGE by CATE MARVIN ACCIDENTS OF BIRTH by WILLIAM MEREDITH ONE FOR ALL NEWBORNS by THYLIAS MOSS CURRICULUM VITAE by LISEL MUELLER FOUND IN THE CABBAGE PATCH by LISEL MUELLER |
