ACROPOLIS, by CATHERINE PATRICK First Line: Ancient pile, which sends from the past a Last Line: Vanish forever. Subject(s): Acropolis Of Athens; Greece; Greeks | ||||||||
Ancient pile, which sends from the past a creeping Shadow down to fields in the sunlight sleeping, Bearing stores of olive and grape for reaping; While time is leaping. Temple, where Greek wealth was once expended, Where the works of art and worship blended, Turned to priceless fragments feebly mended; Time has so tended. Out of this the heritage, ours forever, The bond time has not been allowed to sever; Thread of culture, which though it change, can never Vanish forever. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A FLOWER NO MORE THAN ITSELF by LINDA GREGG ALMA IN ALL SEASONS by LINDA GREGG ALMA IN THE DARK by LINDA GREGG ALMA TO HER SISTER by LINDA GREGG ALONE WITH THE GODDESS by LINDA GREGG APHRODITE AND THE NATURE OF ART by LINDA GREGG AS BEING IS ETERNAL by LINDA GREGG IRELAND; WRITTEN FOR THE ART AUTOGRAPH DURING IRISH FAMINE by SIDNEY LANIER |
