SONNET TO MARC IN MODERN SPAIN, by LORA BETH PENNINGTON First Line: Relate to me the tale of more than war Last Line: Of soul-hewn ships, expanding, take to sea. Subject(s): Sonnet (as Literary Form); Spain | ||||||||
Relate to me the tale of more than war And bursting shrapnel, cannon, fear, and shells. Relate the tale of you, and fill the wells My heart has dug. And still the biting dor Of friends supposed. Now choose a legator To deal the strips of bars and prisoned cells To me, and others, waiting. The sombre knells That time has rung are omens I abhor. I watch the Spanish freighter come to bay And see a lovely olive sway its bough By reading lines that you have mailed to me On dirty paper, writing while you pray, Afraid. I send my love, and see the prow Of soul-hewn ships, expanding, take to sea. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FOR AL-TAYIB SALIH by KHALED MATTAWA MESSAGES AS TRANSLATION by MICHAEL S.
