RESURRECTION, by FLORENCE A. PEPOON First Line: This day in march I walk the hills Last Line: This day in march. Subject(s): Easter; Holidays; Jesus Christ; Resurrection, The; The Resurrection | ||||||||
This day in March I walk the hills All sodden with the first spring rain; The soft air stirs the stiff brown grass Like waving grain. The kildeer's anxious, peevish cry Comes sharply from the blue abyss; The bluebird's sweet, caressing call Falls like a kiss. Beyond the woodland, smoky dim, The sun's red ball in gray mist sinks. The horned lark's trill as frolic sounds As bobolink's. And on a sunny western bank, Where summer's furry mosses creep, Hepatica's soft gray-green buds Have waked from sleep. Then comes a flash of azure wings Beneath the elm tree's bare, brown arch; I feel the throb of summer's pulse, This day in March. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EASTER EVE by FRANCIS WILLIAM BOURDILLON EASTER SUNDAY by LUCILLE CLIFTON GOD SEND EASTER by LUCILLE CLIFTON NOT THE CUCKOLD'S DREAM; FOR SAM PEREIRA by NORMAN DUBIE EASTER HYMN by GEORGE SANTAYANA I DEFINE THE DARKNESS CORRECT: THE FESTIVAL OF THE FRERES LUMIERES by ELENI SIKELIANOS SPANISH EASTER: 1926 by CONRAD AIKEN |
