ELEGIAC SONNET: 14, by PETRARCH Poet's Biography First Line: Loose to the wind her golden tresses stream'd Last Line: The shaft extracted does not cure the wound! Alternate Author Name(s): Petrarca, Francesco | ||||||||
Loose to the wind her golden tresses stream'd, Forming bright waves with amorous Zephyr's sighs; And tho' averted now, her charming eyes Then with warm love, and melting pity beam'd. Thy soft melodious voice, thy air, thy shape, Were of a goddess -- not a mortal maid; Yet tho' thy charms, thy heavenly charms should fade, My heart, my tender heart could not escape; Nor cure for me in time or change be found: The shaft extracted does not cure the wound! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SONNETS TO LAURA IN LIFE: 109 by PETRARCH SONNETS TO LAURA IN LIFE: 131 by PETRARCH SONNETS TO LAURA IN LIFE: 156 by PETRARCH A SONNET ON THE DEATH OF LAURA by PETRARCH A SONNET ON THE DEATH OF LAURA (2) by PETRARCH ELEGIAC SONNET: 13 by PETRARCH ELEGIAC SONNET: 15 by PETRARCH ELEGIAC SONNET: 16 by PETRARCH HE UNDERSTANDS THE GREAT CRUELTY OF DEATH by PETRARCH |
