THE eager tout, while prowling for the news, First heard it from the wop shined his shoes The wop had heard it from a youth who heard A real wise cracker got it from a girl Who knew another flappername of Pearl Whose second cousin knew a rail-bird well, A bird who did not hesitate to tell Just how it happened that he really got The inside information, boiling hot, From a side-partner of a riding ace, Who knew a sure thing in the second race! And thus the tip spread flaming through the town, Till every fish had planked his money down. Oh, gorgeous tip, and rich alluring bet That wretched animal is running yet! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TEN MILLS: IN DIVES' DIVE by ROBERT FROST LONGSHOT BLUES by KENNETH FEARING PLAIN LANGUAGE FROM TRUTHFUL JAMES by FRANCIS BRET HARTE THE CASE OF ALBERT IRVING WILLIAMSON by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS THE PIKER'S RUBAIYAT by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS A FOOL THERE WAS by WILLIAM A.
