THE SONG OF BEAUTY, by JOHN WOLCOTT PHELPS First Line: Yet wake, my love, the morn is fair Last Line: Less fair, less beautiful than thou! Subject(s): Beauty | ||||||||
Yet wake, my love, the morn is fair And Beauty's self pervades the air; Lets fall her soft and misty locks Among the pines and rugged rocks. Her soothing accents fill the ear In voice of waters murm'ring near; The perfume of the opening rose Her own sweet presence doth disclose. And now she takes my lov'd one's form, Made up of sunshine and of storm; Yet stands depicted, Agnes, now, Less fair, less beautiful than thou! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN DIVINELY SUPERFLUOUS BEAUTY by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE BEAUTY OF THINGS by ROBINSON JEFFERS HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS LIFE FROM THE LIFELESS by ROBINSON JEFFERS REARMAMENT by ROBINSON JEFFERS SHANE ONEILLS CAIRN by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE GIRL OF CADIZ by GEORGE GORDON BYRON WHAT OF THE DARKNESS?; TO THE HAPPY DEAD PEOPLE by RICHARD THOMAS LE GALLIENNE |
