THE GOAL, by MARIE TELLO PHILLIPS First Line: We do not travel on beyond the place Last Line: With wings all spread to fly at one lone call. Alternate Author Name(s): Yeagle, Charles J., Mrs. Subject(s): Fate; Travel; Destiny; Journeys; Trips | ||||||||
We do not travel on beyond the place The hands of time are set for us to reach, Although we are as free as air, the pace Was timed at birth, before the start for each. An ever present angel points the way, Admonishing, to speed us to the goal, And faster, faster, as the light of day Now fades from view in sunset's golden bowl. There is a slope beyond, which meets the sky, The course goes on, until we mount the top. In spite of failing eyes, as years go by, We see the hands of time that signal, "Stop!" The same that set the swallow's flight in fall With wings all spread to fly at one lone call. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RICHARD, WHAT'S THAT NOISE? by RICHARD HOWARD LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO RIVERS INTO SEAS by LYNDA HULL DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE ONE WHO WAS DIFFERENT by RANDALL JARRELL THE CONFESSION OF ST.
