FOR THE TAKING, by
First Line: Not far away, nor fenced, nor long in seeking
Last Line: Take of earth's bounty what you will.
Alternate Author Name(s): Pindar, Frances Dickenson; Pinder, F. D.

Not far away, nor fenced, nor long in seeking:
Some chance spot screened from those who pass,
A place of leaves, a stretch of quiet water,
A space of cool, untrodden grass.

Breathe deep the reek of timeless incense rising:
Faint musk of ripe seeds in the pod,
A pensive fragrance as of late wild asters,
Warmth of the spent sun in the sod.

But you must go alone to win its healing:
Low in the friendly grass, lie still,
And drowsing there, half-waking and half-dreaming,
Take of earth's bounty what you will.
