YOU AND MY SONG, by PRISCA PLAUL First Line: How many times from life away I fled Last Line: You and my song shall meet and blend somewhere. Subject(s): Tears; Wisdom | ||||||||
How many times from life away I fled To shadows painting trees on the still sea; A wavering spark, the image just of me; As consolation for the tears I shed. The sun turned shadows hazy gold and red And slowly healing I felt harmony. Wiped out was all, the plot of tyranny, The lonely frozen home of the men dead. I did come back with lighter, fiercer will, Banished again that mystic pressing dream, Feeding myself on sunsets on the hill, On sparkling waters overflown the brim. One cannot walk from life like it were gone Through joy and sorrow life has wisdom won. There is an old song deep-tuned in my heart Mystic veiled with love but never to die. Crimson boughs of roses who sleepy lie Upon my breast have the same hurting dart. Since the day long ago where we forever part My heart has never stopped that silent cry; Then you are gone, and I am wondering why Two lovers who have met should be apart. This is life's maddest and great mystery: Love born in vain, white flame turned raven black. Unmeasured is the light of destiny. Is death the answer and the only gain? Real love can never die, it's always there; You and my song shall meet and blend somewhere. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SEVEN TWILIGHTS: 5 by CONRAD AIKEN SONG: NOW THAT SHE IS HERE; FOR JOE-ANNE by HAYDEN CARRUTH WISE: HAVING THE ABILITY TO PERCEIVE AND ADOPT THE BEST by LUCILLE CLIFTON WISDOM COMETH WITH THE YEARS by COUNTEE CULLEN FOR RANDALL JARRELL, 1914-1965 by NORMAN DUBIE THE MORTAL WORDS OF ZWEIK by PHILIP LEVINE THE RHINOCEROS by HILAIRE BELLOC |
