ON THE RED MOON Over the hills, soft-padding, pausing To peer at the lone ranch light, The gaunt and hungry coyote, slinking, Howls at the night. Yip! Yip! Hyoo-oo-oo! Hyoo-oo-oo! The rabbit flattens and trembles, hiding Close in the shade of the chaparral. Even the earth-owl fluffs and chatters Safe in his cell. Hyoo-oo-oo! Up the ravine, hungrily prowling, Sneaking soft with malignant tread, Grim and black on the red moon's cycle With up-flung head Hyoo-oo-oo! Over the hills, soft-treading, snarling He grins at the far ranch light. The mangy scourge of the hills is howling Lone on the night Yip! Yip! Hyoo-oo-oo!
