SONNET, by B. PRILUTSKY First Line: Since you are done and I must now depart Last Line: Though wounds are healed the scars do yet remain. Subject(s): Ambition | ||||||||
Since you are done and I must now depart, Then shall I kiss you once without a tear, And midst your conquered let my name appear, But first I pray you give me back my heart; The sear you made will never cease to smart, Alas, the flame of love has blown too near; Alas, a certain name has grown too dear, And now you bid me lightly to depart. The wound of winter's cruel relentless hand, Bleeds deeply red upon the cold white snow, A sear which can't be washed aside by rain; But spring has come again upon the land, And healed the depthful wounds; but still you know, Though wounds are healed the scars do yet remain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A RHYME OUT OF MOTLEY by AMY LOWELL PENCIL STUB JOURNALS: ON AN EXALTED NONENTITY by JOHN CIARDI THERE ARE ROUGHLY ZONES by ROBERT FROST SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: ALBERT SCHIRDING by EDGAR LEE MASTERS THE ARCHITECT (2) by KAREN SWENSON WATERING THE HORSE by ROBERT BLY FAILING AND FLYING by JACK GILBERT THE HUMAN ABSTRACT, FR.
